New Year and New Year celebrations always attract attention and are debated. There are those who object to the views that 'New Year celebrations are a Turkish invention, that Santa Claus lives in Anatolia' and say that they are 'Christian inventions'. However, if everyone is looking for an opportunity, they should give it their own meaning and have fun as they wish. The Christmas tree placed by the Ödemiş Municipality and SS Ödemiş Nursery Ornamental Plants Production and Marketing Cooperative at the intersection in the Ödemiş city center attracted a lot of attention. We congratulate those who contributed to the timely introduction of plants in a region where trees are grown. On the other hand, conifers, which are also considered Christmas trees, are grown in the plateaus around Ödemiş such as Gölcük, Su Batan, Bozdağ, Yeniköy. It is even useful to remember that similar trees are grown in the Bursa, Ordu, and Samsun areas and can be exported.

The Christmas Tree is an important symbol for celebrating Christmas. If a cut spruce, fir or pine species is not available, an artificial tree is also used. People who are devoted to this tradition live this ceremonial organization passionately. For example, in England, Norway spruce (Picea abies) was used as the traditional cut Christmas tree for many years. However, in recent years, the conical and softer Nordmandia fir (Abies nordmanniana) has been preferred.

Which species are preferred?

So which conifers are the most preferred in the world for New Year's (Christmas) celebrations? Western Spruce, European Spruce, Norway Spruce (Picea abies). Again, the most preferred ones are our Eastern Black Sea Fir (Abies nordmanniana), which is very much preferred in England. By the way, OGM sources underline that 4 species grow in our country, namely Abies bornmülleriana Mattf. (Uludağ Fir), Abies equitrojani Aschers. et Sint. (Kazdağı Fir) Abies cilicica Carr. (Toros Fir). Again, Blue Spruce (Picea pungens hoopsii) Grafted European Blue Spruce is among the most preferred ones... Fraser Fir (Abies fraseri), Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), Lodgepole Pine (Pinus contorta),
