To plant 40 thousand mature trees…

KOne of the most effective methods to combat global warming is still planting trees.

Consider a major city. How many open-air parking lots, paved with concrete or asphalt, do you think there are? How many square kilometers, or thousands of square meters, of reflective surfaces do they have? If so, how many open-air parking lots are fully planted with trees? In fact, there should be someone in a city who can answer these and similar questions in a snap. Unfortunately, there isn't. Think about it: 1 square kilometer = 1 million square meters. Let's assume one tree is planted per 25 square meters. That translates to 40,000 trees.

This shopping center's parking lot was built and planted 16-17 years ago. If the trees in the parking lot had been planted correctly and in accordance with tree-planting regulations, it would have become a 5,000-square-meter, shaded parking lot.

While there are ready-grown trees…

Now, let's list the steps to take to plant 40,000 mature trees: First, those interested in the issue must come together and organize. Then, the organized groups must present their proposed solutions to local decision-makers, one by one and in turn. To achieve results, they must continue their activities as a pressure group without interruption. Everything the organized group will do to implement its ideas and proposals appears to depend on persistence. However, there are certain technical rules to follow when planting mature trees in urban areas. If these rules are followed successfully, a mature tree will absorb an average of 2.3 kg of carbon dioxide per hour and produce 1.7 kg of oxygen through photosynthesis, storing the remaining carbon. In other words, planting trees remains one of the most effective methods to combat global warming.

Türkiye is importing trees from Europe, as if it had imposed a requirement for imported trees for its public gardens. The European Union, meanwhile, has imposed restrictions, or an embargo, on trees and plants coming from Türkiye. Domestic producers are searching for ways to sell the trees.
