Cyprus and the palm tree

Palm trees cannot be sent to Cyprus from Türkiye. Our research into the reason has not yielded satisfactory answers.
The Antalya region has made significant progress in the production of new, intriguing palm varieties, along with well-known palm species. In addition to species like Washingtonia robusta and Washingtonia filifera, cultivated in the Mediterranean, Aegean, and even the Marmara regions, other noteworthy varieties are being cultivated. Species such as Arecastrum romanzoffianum (Cocos) and Archontophoenix alexandrae, in particular, have become increasingly cultivated with climate change.

Many growers and landscapers are concerned about Cyprus. Palm trees cannot be shipped to Cyprus from Türkiye. We haven't received satisfactory answers from our research. However, sending palm trees to Cyprus from Türkiye doesn't seem feasible. For example, while Strelitzia Reginae is accepted, Strelitzia Nicolai is not accepted into Cyprus.

We know that various palm species, in particular, are imported to Cyprus from other countries. If there's a problem with the red palm weevil, it's also present in countries like Egypt and Israel, but with the protection measures in place, this spread appears to be under control in Türkiye as well. It would be beneficial for SÜSBİR to address this issue.
