Green texture increase and vertical garden

Contribution of İstinye Park İzmir and Yeşilvadi Landscape Design to the green city action plan.

As French botanist Patrick Blanc's vertical garden concept began to appear in public spaces in the late 1980s, the construction market, which effectively drove urban growth, eased. This was because the pressures of the construction market, coupled with excessive rent increases, were increasingly restricting green spaces in city centers. Vertical gardening was a practical solution that could cover concrete walls with greenery. With the exception of some positive examples, cities around the world face similar challenges. Therefore, the question of what and how we can improve landscapes and the environment under given circumstances inevitably arises.

In this respect, İstinye Park Shopping Mall (İzmir Üç Kuyular) serves as a positive example. Despite its structural density, İstinye Park İzmir appears to have embraced the cost of extensive landscaping, incorporating significant planting and afforestation into its immediate and distant surroundings. This sensitivity is a sensitivity rarely encountered in today's environment. İstinye Park, which has attracted attention by creating a garden and landscaping that can serve as an example for its city and region, has also implemented a project that serves as a model for the roof garden decision included in the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality's Green Cities Action Plan. Another striking detail about İstinye Park İzmir is that the transformation of the courtyard walls into vertical gardens has led to the development of vertical planting along the surrounding fences. Once these projects are completed and the landscaping is complete, the vertical garden will create an additional 600-700 square meters of green space.

It's known that today's temperature difference between urban and rural areas is between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius, and that the way to prevent this urban heat island effect is to reduce carbon emissions. However, Green Cities, through the rapid increase in green spaces in urban areas, reduce the heat island effect and contribute to urban cooling. However, it's clear that the efforts of local governments alone will not be sufficient. All institutions and organizations in the city, including homeowners, must contribute by making efforts in this direction. Therefore, we congratulate İstinye Park İzmir and Yeşilvadi Landscape Design, who have created an exemplary project and implementation, for their contribution to the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality's Green City Action Plan. We believe that the İzmir local government will also adhere to the decisions made in the action plan.
