Future Green City Congress-Netherlands

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality participated in the International Future Green City World Congress, held in Utrecht, the Netherlands, from September 23-26, 2024. More than three thousand renowned experts working on the subject attended the congress. The Future Green City World Congress was organized by the Royal Netherlands Association for Urban Studies and the Royal Netherlands Landscape and Gardening Society (VHG). Held in collaboration with the World Urban Parks Association (WUP) and the International Federation of Municipal Engineering (IFME), the congress brought together experts in construction, green spaces, infrastructure, and wetlands.

Transformation strategies, climate adaptation…

This year, the congress addressed the most pressing social issues of urban life under seven designated program headings. Participants from 60 countries shared their experiences and proposed solutions for the future of green cities under the headings of climate adaptation, energy transition, biodiversity, inclusiveness, transformation strategies, asset management, design, circularity, and health. The four-day program, enriched with sessions, interactive workshops, and innovative presentations highlighting activities that will contribute to a sustainable world, featured intense discussions on the future of climate-resilient and sustainable cities.

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality participated in the congress with the Turkey-EU Town Twinning Project-II Fund. The Turkey-EU Town Twinning Project-II aims to strengthen cooperation between local governments in Turkey and EU countries through projects focused on environment and climate change. The "Mobility and Networking Support" provided as part of the project encourages local governments to share their experiences on climate change, develop joint projects, and participate in EU city networks. Dr. Ahmet Cemil Tepe, Ülkü Gülgüneş, and Çağla Yazıcı from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Parks, Gardens, and Green Areas Departments took part in the congress on behalf of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
